Nooooooooooooooooo! But maybe yes? But Nooooo!

Alcon Entertainment the people behind The Book of Eli, P.S. I Love You and The Wicker Man have picked up the rights to do Blade Runner Sequels and Prequels… note the plural, I don’t know if the plural was intentional but it could be…

Blade Runner is one of the tightest Science fiction movies ever released, it still packs a punch now almost 30 years after it was released, it doesn’t need to be remade, or to have sequels/prequels made. It works stand alone as it is.

But a little devil in the back of my mind keeps saying “What if?” What if they get it right, what if they capture Blade Runners visual style, it’s atmosphere it’s magic, that could be awesome! But no! I must maintain my cynical edge! Look what they did to Transformers! Look what they did to G.I. Joe, TMNT… Every Series from the 80’s that gets rehashed, remade etc just gets raped for intellectual property because it will sell purely on nostalgia… “There was Battlestar Galactica that was pretty awesome” pipes up the demon in the back of my mind… I’ll give him that, but in the grand scale of things Battlestar is the exception rather than the rule.

I really want this to be awesome, but to be honest I doubt it will be.
