I was browsing the comments to a random Reddit post and came across these two gems:

Sure that’s what they claim. The truth is they were sick of people saying “Nothing is certain but taxes” and invented death to deflect some of the grumbling.

One is a response to the other, but as people quickly pointed out they are both very Douglas Adams/Terry Pratchet. As Reddit threads seem to fade away into obscurity, and I guess these will be quoted elsewhere I wanted to do my part to preserve what I think is the origin of these two quotes.

For all I know they were stolen from somewhere else, but on the odd chance they are original…

  1. haha! I was reading that thread just now. Right after the first line, I thought he got it from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. Then I thought hard about it and realized it’s not from the novels.

    Good stuff.

  2. I have no idea what this site is about, I’m on my iPhone, and I also thought that joke was brilliant when I read it. Was trying to remember what it was and it was bugging the crap outta me. I tried to search the gist of it, but google didn’t pickup the thread, but it did this.

    So THANK YOU, for getting a load off my back :)
