Sound Illuminating Dress

This dress created by YouTube user safirecat may not have been that difficult to create but the idea is still quite cool. It’s just EL Wire hooked up to a sound driver that changes the brightness of the EL wire on and off depending on the ambient sound levels. You can get the components from Cool Neon Lighting:

The Sound Driver is $12 and the EL Wire is about $1.60 a foot or with a discount for a whole spool.

They even sell kits like a learn to solder kit for $35 or their “Cool Neon Artist’s Kit” for $175

On a related note mentioned in the comments of the YouTube Video is this cool little project by Sensebridge called the Sound Spark its a pendant/necklace that reacts to ambient sound with flashing LED lights.

The Sound Spark is only $29 and comes with in 3 different coloured LEDs and two different necklace styles.

To go on another tangent, Sensebridge also sell the “Heart Spark” which does the same as the Sound Spark but instead gets it’s signals from a wireless heart-rate monitor (Sold Separately), I’m in no way affiliated with these people but I think what they sell is quite cool, they apparently are working on a product called the Mood Spark which is like a mood ring but it actually lights up in different colours. That’s pretty nifty, you’ll have to hunt it out on their website because I can’t be bothered linking to it (it’s not hard to find) apparently they have working prototypes…

Lodnon 2102 Oimplycs

Oimplycs Squares

I love the idea behind this, I’ve personally not been effected by LOCOG’s draconian policy of turning the Olympics from what should be a celebration of human achievement to a stinking pile of over commercialism but just hearing about it annoys me.

What started as a joke by a clothing company has turned into a movement protesting against LOCOG and the way it treats anyone who doesn’t give them money as complete shit.

Wine merchant Oddbins are apparently offering a 30% discount to anyone who comes into an Oddbins branch who wearing Nike trainers and has in their pocket a set of Vauxhall car keys, an RBS MasterCard, an iPhone, a bill from British Gas and a receipt for a Pepsi bought at KFC.

Ayo Akintola, the managing Director of Oddbins has issued the following statement(Via the Drum):

“The London Olympics is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the whole of the UK’s business community to come together to support our fantastic athletes and celebrate an awe-inspiring festival of sport.

“But thanks to LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games), any business without the tens of millions of pounds required to join the cabal of multinational brand partners for the Games are reduced to the status of beggars on the gilded streets of the Olympic movement.

“We have taken steps to ensure our planned window displays do not flout any of these asinine rules, but we are doing this primarily to highlight the absurdity of the fact that the British people – who are paying for these games – are at the same time being subject to ridiculous rules. Even though our window designs will be within the rules, we would not be surprised if LOCOG goes loco.”

You can keep track of the goings on of the Lodnod 2102 Oimplycs on their official site.

Why Kerning Is So Important

I’m sure you could dedicate an entire blog to bad Kerning.

Orktimus Prime: Transforming Warhammer 40K Custom Miniature

OrktimusPrimeOpen

I don’t often admit to this, but a very long time ago (20 years if not more) I tried to become a wargamer… I say tried because it never happened, I bought a lot of miniatures then discovered that when you live in Saudi Arabia there aren’t very many places to actually wargame.

Anyway, that and the fact that this is a Transformers themed custom miniature are just two of the many reasons I find this piece by “madscuzzy” (Deviant Art Page) awesome, the other reasons mainly have to do with the fact that it is in fact actually awesome…

You can read a full interview with the creator over at Tabeltop Geeks, I’m not going to replicate that here. They also have in progress images of the piece.

On a slight tangent, many many years ago one of my many internet handles was Skuzzy so in a parallel universe you could be reading this on Skuzzy.net…

Phone Box Sofa

This Sofa shaped like a phone box on it’s side by artist Benjamin Shine is being auctioned off at Sotheby’s (Auction Catalog):

Box Lounger brings the iconic Phone Box indoors, transformed into a functional piece of furniture. Designed with button-back red leather upholstery and light-up Telephone signs, Box Lounger packs a patriotic punch in its fusion of British heritage design.

If only he’d made a TARDIS version…

It’s Not F*cking Profound!

I posted the above quote to Facebook because I was annoyed at the number of people that had put up complete and utter crap superimposed on a pretty picture in the interest of looking or feeling deep and meaningful and someone replied with that image. Fair play to them but my point still stands.

It’s not profound! It just isn’t, I hate the practice, it’s all over the internets clogging up the tubes! Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest all of them have people guilty of this. I want to rant about this but it annoys me so much I actually can’t be bothered expressing the vehement hatred I have for this practice. So I’m just going to shut up and let you get along with your day…

I’m Doing This The Next Time I Have To Sign An Official Document…

In fact I might change my official signature to be a sine wave. The really funny thing is that they are signing the using a “wave form” get it “wave” “form”! No? not actually funny I guess not.

You probably also don’t find it funny that they are signing up to play Laser Tag and lasers being light are constituted of a wave form. Still not funny? I guess I’ll show myself out…

Shit Just Got Real!

I can’t resist a good maths joke…

Gah! The image seems to have disappeared for this post… and I can’t find the source.

FWIW the image was the square root of “i” squared. I’ll see if I can dig it up.

Update: This design on Redbubble is pretty much the same concept…

Shit Just Got Real by Julian Gomez

UPDATE:  Not that anyone has been following this but I’ve found the image. I saved it to my iPad and it popped up in Dropbox’s camera uploads when I plugged my iPad in! Woo! Still no idea where I found the image though.
