Surreal Light

The other night I took this photo out the window at around midnight. It was almost as bright as a muggy day. There was not visible light source and I didn’t use my flash, but you could see clearly for miles.

It was really surreal, we postulated it might be the end of the world. It obviously wasn’t, and we later realised that the light from the city was reflecting off the fog and then again off the recently fallen snow causing the surreal glow.

Other explanations are welcome.

Here is another photo from the front of the house, excuse the glare we were going to bed and I didn’t want to open the window and let the cold in:
