Pixel Pants: 8 Bit Underwear

So this Indie Go Go campaign to fund pixelated Underwear is happening. I can’t help but think that the pixels round the edges won’t keep their shape though or will just fold in on themselves.

Still if you are interested more power to you, I’d fund it but I’m not sure they’d suit my not so “girlish” figure. They would go perfectly with these pixelated high heels though…

Steel Punk: Bear Trap Brass Epaulettes!

brass-trap-epaulettes4

These Brass Bear Trap Epaulettes were sold by Binkaminka on Etsy, OK so they are technically Brass Punk, but I’m going to take that as a sub genre of Steel Punk.

Super Mario Brothers Kimono

I’m a little sad that my Japanese isn’t good enough to tell you the complete story behind this assuming there is one. From what I can gather the original Japanese post is just a blog post about geeky T-Shirts, and it happens to have this Kimono in it too.

The homemade (I assume?) Mario Kimono has a scent from Super Mario Bros embroidered on the “Obi” and the start screen on the back, as well as having Mario, Peach, Bowser a Boo and a 1-Up mushroom on the kimono.

The Famicom (What the Japanese NES was) controller obi tie makes it perfect.

Incidentally the same post also has this pretty cool Gameboy Dress:

And these funky Gamer tights:

This is the 21st in a series of “Show Me Your Gamer Shirts” Blog posts by this blogger, so there is a lot more to see there.

Weird Shoes…

Scary-Beautiful

I’m a guy I only vaguely understand high heels, but these just look painful. Imagine being in a constant whatever-the-word-for-when-ballerinas-stand-on-their-tippie-toes-is all the time you wear these shoes… You probably wont fall over, at least not forward, but still that just looks uncomfortable.

They are by Amsterdam based designer  Leanie van der Vyver in collaboration with a Dutch shoe designer René van den Berg according to my source article, although I’m not sure they realise that Amsterdam is also in the Netherlands…

“The user must point their foot to insert into the shoe’s modified vamp which is inclined forward and tapers down to the toebox. ”
“Humans are playing God by physically and metaphorically perfecting themselves. Beauty is currently at an all time climax, allowing this project to explore what lies beyond perfection.
Scary Beautiful challenges current beauty ideals by inflicting an unexpected new beauty standard.”

I’ve said it one and I’ll say it again, that cannot be comfortable, which is my only criteria when buying new shoes. I mean honestly I can’t tell if that girl in the photo up top is trying to look sexy or take a dump… I’m guessing the former, but they have left it open to interpretation.

USA Sun Glasses!

Americans! Are you feeling ridiculously patriotic after electing or not electing the best candidate? Want to look ridiculous and maybe patriotic too? Maybe you should get these USA sunglasses, they are unisex apparently and designed by Jeremy Scott  for Linda Farrow (Who apparently do lots of sunglasses…)

They fold up! As if wearing these glasses won’t make you look like enough of an idiot!

You can buy these on the UK shop! They are £191! Oh wait they are out of stock… Never mind…

Scale Mail For Potential Steel Punks

Slave bracelet, Tribal, elven chainmaille handflower, scalemail. Larp, SCA, medieval, dungeons and dragons, bellydance, costume, sexy, bdsm

Never say that I abandon a cause right after starting on it… Eternalelfcreations over on Etsy might be the people to spark Steel Punk, or possibly Scale Punk or Elf Punk I can’t decide (It’s not even a real subculture and yet it now has sub cultures!) The hand covery thing above kind of fits what I was talking about a couple of days ago and it’s only $65 Canadian (I have no idea what that is in real money… Oh wait Etsy tells me it’s £42.66) If you want to cover more than your hands you could buy this scale mail bra  (It’s actually reserved for somone but I’m sure in exchange for money they’d make another) or the scale mail bikini below it? They seem to come in loads of colours.

Reserved, scale bra, belt, bikini top, chainmaille bra, chainmaille belt.

small chainmaille bikini, fantasy armor, scale, scalemail, bra, shirt, bellydance, tribal, Elven, ranger, fairy, warrior, dragon, costume

You could pretend it was dragon scale or something…

If that’s not your thing then how about this cool looking but functionally useless chain mail vest by daughtersofbastards?

Chainmaille breast plate/halter

It’s $500 Canadian which is apparently about £328. Knock yourselves out.

Why is Steel-Punk Not a Thing?

I saw the piece above entitled Pauldrons and Arm Braces by deviant artist vofffka and wondered to my self why there wasn’t a subculture of people who dressed up like knights? The concept of chivalry and honor are quite big in some geek sub circles, George RR Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones series is hitting it off big time both in the bookstore and on the small screen and it involves wearing armour!

Why is this not a thing? I’m not talking about LARP (Live Action Role Play) style costumes, dressing up in full plate would make day to day tasks completely impractical, I’m talking about incorporating things that look like armor into everyday outfits, a little like this Hoodie by Etsy seller SOFworks which was so successful it got the poor guys shop shut down…

Grey Knight Armored Hoodie

We have Steam punk, that’s a thing that’s been a geek subculture for quite some time, arguably for some people it just involves wearing brown goth clothes and gluing on some gears, but it’s a vibrant subculture.

Likewise there is cyber punk, cyber goth, and hundreds of other subcultures consisting of people who want to for one reason or another dress like they come from another time period be it the past or the future, people even dress up as anthropomorphised animals and believe that that is their true form (Weirder still there are double furries who believe that they are animals dressed up as humans…)

Why don’t we have Steel Punk?

Like I said I’m not talking about people wearing full suits of armor, that’s impractical unless you are LARPing or Cosplaying.

So wondering about with swords is probably out of the question because you will probably get stopped by the police pretty sharpish, but accessorizing normal clothing with pauldrons, bracers, maybe a knitted medieval helm or a knitted chain mail jumper (There is a pattern for this here)?

Or knitted armor:

I have found a few projects scattered about the web The following are undergrad projects:

Photobucket
Undergraduate Lydia Hanchette created this cuir bouille cincher,
pauldron, and vambrace entirely of hardened leather.

Photobucket
Body armor and pauldron/vambrace rig by second year Adrienne Corral
Photobucket
As above but worn

They are all leather and maybe steel would be a little but less practical, but I still find it strange that there aren’t more people wondering about with bits of armor accentuating their outfits.

As I said actual metal would be preferable, and it’s not like modern fashion designers haven’t tried this like these costumes by designer Naty Chabanenko which are supposed to be android like but lets face it look like stylized armour:

Or this design from Alexander McQueen’s 2007 collection which has a lot of armor inspired designs but this is really the only one that fits what I’d call steel punk:

Or even these armored jeans by Acne Jeans:

Acne armoured jeans Acne make armoured jeans, world wonders why

Or these plate high heels by Nigel carren? He does armor fashion!

Maybe not this plate bra though…

All I’m saying is it seems really weird to me that despite there being a niche for this subculture and there being people who would fit into that niche the subculture doesn’t exist.

And no wearing articulated claw rings does not count, that’s just lame…

The Bat-Stache!

What man could possibly not want to shave his mustache and beard into the shape of the bat signal? What man indeed? Well Redditor Captain_Auburn_Beard did just that, and we all respect him all the more for it!

Portal Sneaker Boots

I’ve always thought that the Converse style “sneaker boots” you can get look cool but I’m not sure I could pull them off, or put them on for that matter as I have calves the size of… Well very big things…

These Portal Sneaker boots by artist Jared Sellers are pretty cool, what is it about adding a little blue and orange to a design and putting the Aperture science logo on things that makes them infinitely cooler? For some reason anything Portal is cool on the internet these days, I’m not about to argue, because my first reaction was “COOL PORTAL SNEAKER BOOTS!” and not “Oh no not another artist trying to rip off Portal” so there you have it…

Make Yourself Look Like a Cyber Punk/Goth God!

Exo-Boots - Hydraulic Armour for Boots

I found a listing for these boot covers (no you will have to buy your own boots) on Etsy, the same shop sells a shmorgasport of other cyber goth things including these wings which I think I’ve featured here before:

Powered Mechanical Wings - Version 1.5 with LED Light Effects

The boot Armour will set you back about £300 + shipping from Canukistan (Canada). They also sell glowy gauntlets and a really odd looking neck brace…
