Never say that I abandon a cause right after starting on it… Eternalelfcreations over on Etsy might be the people to spark Steel Punk, or possibly Scale Punk or Elf Punk I can’t decide (It’s not even a real subculture and yet it now has sub cultures!) The hand covery thing above kind of fits what I was talking about a couple of days ago and it’s only $65 Canadian (I have no idea what that is in real money… Oh wait Etsy tells me it’s £42.66) If you want to cover more than your hands you could buy this scale mail bra (It’s actually reserved for somone but I’m sure in exchange for money they’d make another) or the scale mail bikini below it? They seem to come in loads of colours.
You could pretend it was dragon scale or something…
This dress created by YouTube user safirecat may not have been that difficult to create but the idea is still quite cool. It’s just EL Wire hooked up to a sound driver that changes the brightness of the EL wire on and off depending on the ambient sound levels. You can get the components from Cool Neon Lighting:
The Sound Driver is $12 and the EL Wire is about $1.60 a foot or with a discount for a whole spool.
On a related note mentioned in the comments of the YouTube Video is this cool little project by Sensebridge called the Sound Spark its a pendant/necklace that reacts to ambient sound with flashing LED lights.
The Sound Spark is only $29 and comes with in 3 different coloured LEDs and two different necklace styles.
To go on another tangent, Sensebridge also sell the “Heart Spark” which does the same as the Sound Spark but instead gets it’s signals from a wireless heart-rate monitor (Sold Separately), I’m in no way affiliated with these people but I think what they sell is quite cool, they apparently are working on a product called the Mood Spark which is like a mood ring but it actually lights up in different colours. That’s pretty nifty, you’ll have to hunt it out on their website because I can’t be bothered linking to it (it’s not hard to find) apparently they have working prototypes…
I was a little disappointed to find out that these are just labels and not actually a set of crayons. You’ll have to buy your own Crayola crayons to stick them onto rather than them being pre-wrapped. QueInteresante supply these label for a variety of Crayon colours and they also make labels to put on your colouring pencils… I mean your kids colouring pencils…
Throne of Screams by Brinkerhoff imagines StarScream on the Iron Throne. The crown he wears in the Transformers movie is a nice touch but I can’t get past the fact that the colours on this image seem a bit too dark.
If it tickles your fancy you have 24 hours (Probably less by the time you read this) to get it off of Ript Apparel.
I can never remember how to make origami boats, though I’ve learned how to do it several time as a child I think I’ve forgotten every single time. The Origami Boat Candles by designer Roman Ficek are available in 6 colours and apparently float.
I’m not sure you can really call these puzzles, but I like the idea behind them. Each Pixel Puzzle seems to consist of a set of square stickers in various colours. You are supposed to stick the stickers together to form the image on the box. Although singe the stickers don’t seem to interlock I assume you could make any image you wanted to with the included stickers.
There are currently 7 of these to chose from: 3 hedge hogs, a cactus, a shark, a reindeer, a penguin, a squirrel and a crocodile:
I like the concept behind this, but I’m afraid I don’t like the colour of the actual tie, sure it’s true to life and it’s a colour that I’m perfectly happy to be on my circuit boards, but I’m not sure I would like to wear it.
For the confused the above tie represents a resistor, the different bands tell you what the resistance of the resistor is, you can use the below chart to tell that the above resistor is 5600 Ohms +- 5%
Personally I prefer the other colours of resistor you get like this one:
