I’m a little sad that my Japanese isn’t good enough to tell you the complete story behind this assuming there is one. From what I can gather the original Japanese post is just a blog post about geeky T-Shirts, and it happens to have this Kimono in it too.
The homemade (I assume?) Mario Kimono has a scent from Super Mario Bros embroidered on the “Obi” and the start screen on the back, as well as having Mario, Peach, Bowser a Boo and a 1-Up mushroom on the kimono.
The Famicom (What the Japanese NES was) controller obi tie makes it perfect.
Incidentally the same post also has this pretty cool Gameboy Dress:
And these funky Gamer tights:
This is the 21st in a series of “Show Me Your Gamer Shirts” Blog posts by this blogger, so there is a lot more to see there.
This t-shirt design which mixes Alice in Wonderland with Peach from Super Mario Brothers is available for 23 Euros at La Fraise.
This image by Eduardo San Gil explains what is happening behind the scenes when you play a game of Tetris to generate the seemingly random stream of blocks. It was designed for a Threadless T-Shirt which I can’t seem to find anymore. But I did see that someone (Profound Whatever to be specific) had made a simulacrum of the image in Lego:
I also noted this pretty cool Kill Bill Princes Peach crossover image:
These Nintendo themed aprons by Janeille on Etsy are quite cool, you can get a Princess Peach one (above) a Zelda One or a Links One (both below). They are one of a kind made to order apparently so I assume you can have whatever customizations you want added to them.
I can’t find the source of this 🙁

I found this Image of the “Nintendo Girls” as 80’s punks by Deviant Art user agentscarlet, no sign of Daisy there, no one ever seems to remember poor Daisy…
He’s also trimmed it into a wallpaper:
The same artist has has also made zombie versions of Peach and Samus:
Sadly no Zelda.
The Peach Pin-Up above and the Daisy Pin-Up below are available from Ninja Bot‘s store for $20 each. It’s good to see Daisey getting her share of prime time, everyone always thinks of peach and daisy just plays 2nd fiddle. That said Daisy has only really been the goal of one Mario game, she just plays a bit part in a whole load of Mario sub-games, she’s not even Luigi to Mario’s Peach. Which is a shame, when peach got her own game where she was the protagonist.
There is something about art nouveau art that just exudes class, I really like these three Nintendo themed pieces available as a triptych or separately from artist Megan Lara‘s store over at society6. I’d love to have these up on my wall as they are quite subtle and it’s not immediately obvious that they are video game inspired.
More images of the art in the flesh from Level up studios:
Megan has also done some pretty cool Firefly inspired posters among others, it’s worth having a look at her site to see her other work…
