Writing

I try my hand at writing every now and then, I may not be very good, but I try.

Below you will find posted some of the things I have written (Once I’ve added the links):

NaNoWriMo 2008: Untitled Science Fiction: This was a story I started writing for NaNoWriMo in 2008, I didn’t get very far as I kind of lost my steam when my main character ran into another character who I hadn’t fleshed out enough to give a personality. I’d like to go back to this and finish it off and I think it had potential and there were some clever elements to it. I tried to write it with Douglas Adams’ voice in my head I doubt I succeeded…

NaNoWriMo 2009: The Cryonaught: This was a story that I started writing for NaNoWriMo 2009, I got a 5th of the way into it then just lost steam and stopped writing, I’ve got a plan of what happens next in a Google doc creatively titled “what-happens-next-o-meter”, so chances are I will go back and at least try to finish this.

The Story was based on a dream I had where a couple of people woke up from cryo-stasis on a space station years after they were supposed to only to find that the whole world had gone to shit. So far I’ve not even gotten that far as I was trying to pace the story so it would last 50k words for NaNoWriMo. Not sure if that was the best of Ideas, I like the premise and I liked where the story was going, I spent a lot of time just making life difficult for the main character which was fun.

NaNoWriMo 2010: The God Shards: This was my pathetic attempt at writing “Epic Fantasy” while I still like the world and I think there are some good ideas in here I think the writing is very forced and I’m really not happy with it. I tried to move things along a little too quickly after discovering that I was 20K in and still in the introduction.

The story is really a mechanism to justify the creation story, which I’m not even sure I got a chance to touch upon in what I wrote…

NaNoWriMo 2011: Sophie’s Journey: November 2011 was a busy month for me which meant that this story never got off it’s feet. I loved writing Sophie’s character, it was really fun getting into her head, unfortunately I don’t think I managed to get into the other characters’ heads  quite as well as such the writing feels a little stunted.

Writing Exercise 2011: The Actress I wrote this in a coffee shop in the space of an hour or so, we put a picture in the middle of the table every few minutes and we had to weave that image in our story.
